Winery
A WINERY
WITH ITS OWN CHARACTER

In our land nothing characterises or defines more than the power of a nickname. These nicknames, many of lost origin, are what give strength, character and a sense of identity to each member of a family.
That is why our winery could not be called anything other than ‘Perica’, the nickname that David García has proudly carried for years and which defines a way of seeing life based on effort, attention to detail, as well as respect and affection for the winemaking heritage of this land.
It is these virtues that have propelled our winery over the last half century from being a local winery to an international company.
To share our passion for winemaking, we opened a new winery in 2011 which, as well as incorporating the most innovative winemaking and ageing techniques, has a much improved design, so that we can share the experience in a designer atmosphere without renouncing a cosy and familiar atmosphere.

BREAK, SILENCE... WINE

From the exuberance of the light of the vineyard, we move on to the introspection and silence of the darkness of the cellar. After an initial fermentation in new French Allier oak vats at a constant temperature and several rackings, the wine is distributed according to its final destination: bottle if it is young or barrel for crianzas, reservas and grandes reservas. The fermentation in barrels, the magic that transforms the must into our wines, follows processes controlled at all times by our oenologist Rafael García and the rest of the winery's technical team, disturbing, just enough, the happy catharsis of the fermented must into magnificent wine. The ageing process is carried out in 225-litre oak barrels, mainly of French and American origin.
Our main hall is currently used for our acclaimed crianza wines and has a variety of barrels from different origins such as French, American and Eastern European.
Our oldest wines have a place to rest and mature in the room called Zaco, where they rest and evolve, acquiring their contrasting complexity until they are bottled.

The beginnings

Perica Wineries is a family winery with strong traditional values that dates back to 1912. We have more than 150 hectares of our own vineyards in the best areas of Rioja Alta, thus controlling the total production of our vineyards and the careful winemaking process in the winery.
Don Juan García, founder of the winery, destined these wines for local consumption and for sale in neighbouring villages. Gradually, due to the success achieved, it was his son Don David García, affectionately nicknamed Perica, who inherited the project and consolidated it, giving it his nickname, building the winery and registering it with the Rioja Designation of Origin Control Board in 1950.
Currently, it is the third generation, Rosa and David, who lead the project, the children of ‘Perica’, together with their professional team, have decided to carry out some important reforms in the winery to implement the latest technologies in the winemaking process and to focus on wine tourism.
